Rennes coach to step down
RENNES, France -- Frederic Antonetti will step down as Rennes coach at the end of this season.
Rennes lost to Saint-Etienne 1-0 in the French League Cup final on Saturday. It is on a nine-game winless streak in all competitions, which includes seven defeats.
The Brittany club sat in fourth place in the French league in January before slipping to the middle of the table.
"After four beautiful years, my time with Rennes will come to an end," Antonetti told the club's website. "I have decided to leave the club, in part because of the disappointment resulting from a rough end of the season."
Rennes finished sixth in the last two seasons. Antonetti joined Rennes in 2009 after coaching French clubs Bastia, Saint-Etienne and Nice.
