Lille 'making Garcia back-up plan'

Lille are continuing their search for a potential successor to Rudi Garcia even though he has said he will stay at the club beyond the summer, L'Equipe has reported.

Garcia, 49, has made no secret of his ambition to work in Spain, and French media reports have linked him with both Valencia and Sevilla.

He appeared to have ended speculation over his future last month, when he said he would stay at Lille at least until the end of his contract at the end of next season.

But L'Equipe said the 2010-11 double-winners were making plans in case he had a change of heart.

The paper reported that Frederic Paquet, Lille's deputy director general, and Jean-Michel Vandamme, an advisor to president Michel Seydoux, met Montpellier coach Rene Girard in Paris on Monday.

Girard will leave the club he guided to the Ligue 1 title last season when his contract expires in the summer, while Lille have already held discussions with Real Sociedad coach Philippe Montanier, 48, who is also out of contract in June.

L'Equipe said the club also planned to talk to Frederic Antonetti, whose contract at Rennes expires in the summer, and Borussia Monchengladbach coach Lucien Favre.

Garcia is due to meet Seydoux in the next few days to discuss his and the club's plans for next season.
