Wenger needs striking 'solution'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted he needed to find a striking 'solution' after Olivier Giroud was sent-off in the club's 1-0 victory over Fulham.

• Blog: Defeat but no disgrace

Arsenal jumped back into third position on the Premier League ladder thanks to a first-half goal from defender Per Mertesacker.

But the club's fight for a top-four position was dented when Giroud was shown a straight red card late in the game for a crude challenge on Stanislav Manolev.

The French striker's dismissal leaving Wenger with a quandary as the Gunners prepare for the final four games of the season.

"It looked like it [deserved a red card], yes," Wenger told Sky Sports.

"I spoke with Giroud just now and he said he slipped when he went for the ball and I don't complain about [the decision].

"We have to find a solution up front now for the final games but that can happen and we have to deal with that."

However, after missing out on all three points against Everton earlier in the week, Wenger was pleased the club had returned to winning ways.

But he was at a loss as to why his players struggled to add to their goal tally against ten-men Fulham.

"Of course for us, after the draw against Everton, it was important to take three points," he said. "We had quite a positive first half but I don't know why in the second half our game deteriorated.

"You have to give Fulham credit, they're a good side who fought like mad because they went down to 10 men early on in the game and they played very well today."
