Eric Abidal has expressed a desire to continue playing with Barcelona beyond the expiry of his contract in June.
Abidal, 33, made a comeback for Barca this month after spending a year out following a liver transplant in April 2012. Reports have suggested that the club will offer the French defender an ambassadorial role but he told Spanish radio station RAC1 he does not want to call time on his playing career just yet.
“If my health permits I want to continue playing at the club but my contract ends in June," he said.
“What if they do not call me? Someone told me something (about an ambassador's role) but not directly. I know that the president has plans for me.
“Anyway, only I can decide my future. Time and God will say if I can't go on and if then I have to be an ambassador, I would be happy. I would retire at the club but it depends on them, not me.”
