Stramaccioni refuses to discuss future

Inter head coach Andrea Stramaccioni refused to be drawn on his future after his side lost their Coppa Italia semi-final to Roma

Inter Milan coach Andrea Stramaccioni refused to comment on speculation regarding his future after his side's Coppa Italia exit following a 3-2 loss to Roma on Wednesday.

• Roma's hunt for a trophy
• Coppa defeat end for Stram?

Roma sealed a 5-3 aggregate win in the second leg, with a Mattia Destro brace and Vasilis Torosidis' strike either side of goals to Inter duo Jonathan and Ricardo Alvarez setting up a cup final derby with city rivals Lazio.

Inter had an advantage in the tie when Jonathan found the net in the 21st minute, but Roma proved too difficult as the hosts searched for a winner and Stramaccioni admitted the Nerazzurri were simply outplayed.

"I can only compliment my players, as we put everything we had on to the field," Stramaccioni told Rai Sport. "I think the team had an excellent first half and we could've doubled our lead with Tommaso Rocchi.

"In the second half Roma improved, while we lost physical intensity. The regret is we conceded a goal on a counter-attack when our defence was set out. The Giallorossi did well to take advantage."

Stramaccioni was the subject of scrutiny following the match, with critics suggesting success in the cup was his last chance of remaining at the San Siro.

"I do not give a damn about rumours about my future," he said. "As long as I'm on the Inter bench I will give 110% for these colours.

"The newspapers can pull out the names of 127 different coaches, I do not care. You pull out a name, that coach renews with his team, and you pull out another. Let's just help renew the contracts of every other coach."

He added: "I don't want to talk about myself, as I want to discuss the players. It's a bit of a difficult period, as we got Ricky Alvarez and Juan Jesus back for this game, then lost Esteban Cambiasso in the warm-up.

"I will say over the two legs that Roma deserved to reach the final, so I compliment them and also compliment my players for giving their all. I thank the fans, who understood the situation and supported us to the end."

Roma coach Aurelio Andreazzoli praised his side following the comeback win but is confident the Giallorossi will remain focused on their league campaign.

"At half-time we told each other that we couldn't continue like this. We had to shake ourselves up," Andreazzoli told Rai. "It's difficult to explain why we started the game so badly, as it's not the first time this has happened.

"Against Torino on Sunday we again needed the classic slap in the face to wake us up. We always seem to scrape the bottom of the barrel to then recover our energy.

"We've got to arrive at that match with the right psychological and physical condition. This is only possible if we win the next few games in Serie A.

"When I was called in, I proposed some targets to myself, among them the Coppa Italia final. A derby to win the Coppa is something special. However, we mustn't just focus on the Final, otherwise we risk throwing away all the other good work we've done so far."
