Sahin denies giving AS interview

Nuri Sahin has denied telling the AS newspaper that he did not regret about joining Real Madrid.

Sahin, 24, moved to Madrid in summer 2011 for around €10 million after helping Borussia Dortmund wrest the Bundesliga title off Bayern Munich.

But a struggle for fitness and form meant he barely played in his maiden season for Real under Jose Mourinho, making only four La Liga appearances, of which two were as a substitute.

He joined Liverpool on a season-long loan at the start of this season but was unable to force his way into the side on a regular basis.

After seven Premier League starts, he did not play in the league again after November 11, and the loan was cancelled in January.

Dortmund moved to take over the agreement and Sahin returned to the Bundesliga where, after building his fitness back up, he has become a regular starter again.

He still faces an uncertain future, with another three years left on his Real Madrid contract, and had been quoted as telling AS: "Of course I had different expectations when I went there. But I was injured. I didn't play well when I was able to return to the team and the whole time I was injured the team were really playing very well.

"Now, when I see how my game is improving, I think I took the right decision to go. I learned a lot. I was able to train day in day out with the best players in the world, like Cristiano [Ronaldo], [Karim] Benzema, [Gonzalo] Higuain... This helped me a lot to improve my game.''

However, Sahin used his official Facebook account to insist he had not given the interview.

He wrote: "Hi friends! I haven't spoken to anyone from the AS!"
