Santa Fe ease to group win

Colombian side Santa Fe made sure of finishing top of Copa Libertadores' Group Six, after beating 2-0 Peru's Real Garcilaso.

The hosts had to work hard for openings against a Garcilaso side who adopted defensive tactics, with Wilder Medina the only Santa Fe player to threaten in the first half.

However, visiting goalkeeper Diego Carranza was beaten in the early stages of the second half by Medina, following valuable assistance from Omar Perez.

The victory was secured with 20 minutes remaining when Cristian Martinez netted Santa Fe's second goal - but there was good news for the Peruvians as they qualified for the round of 16 despite the defeat.

Garcilaso could have been eliminated by another Colombian side - but Tolima could manage nothing more than a goalless draw against already-eliminated Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno and the Peruvians progress as a result of their second-placed finish in the group.

Information from the Press Association was used in this report.
