Inter suffer further injury setbacks

Inter Milan's injury woes have deepened after Walter Gargano and Yuto Nagatamo suffered injuries during the 2-0 defeat at Cagliari on Saturday.

The growing injury list means Inter could struggle to name anything close to a normal starting line-up when they face Roma in the Coppa Italia semi-finals at home on Wednesday.

Midfielder Gargano and defender Nagatamo have both suffered leg injuries, and their absences will make the task of overturning a 2-1 deficit even harder for coach Andrea Stramaccioni.

A club statement, published on Inter's official website, said: "Medical examinations have confirmed damage to Yuto Nagatomo's left meniscus [knee joint].

"For Walter Gargano, who left the field after eight minutes of the second half, there is second to third degree damage to the rectus femoris muscle of his left thigh.''

Both players could miss up to four matches, while Stramaccioni is also without Joel Obi, Gaby Mudingayi, Diego Milito, Luca Castellazzi, Cristian Chivu, Dejan Stankovic, Rodrigo Palacio, Antonio Cassano, Ibrahim M'Baye, Gargano and Nagatomo.

The absence of Palacio, Milito and Cassano has been a huge blow to Inter's league form, with 35-year-old Tommaso Rocchi their only fit senior striker.

They are seventh in Serie A, nine points off third-placed AC Milan in the final Champions League place.
