Zabaleta hopes dad makes Cup final

Pablo Zabaleta hopes his ill father will be able to travel from Argentina to Wembley to watch Manchester City play against Wigan in next month's FA Cup final.

Jorge Zabaleta has been in poor health since a motor accident left him in a coma in 2011 with head, neck and chest injuries.

His son returned from his hospital bedside in Buenos Aires to help City beat Manchester United in an FA Cup semi-final that year.

Now Sunday's 2-1 win over Chelsea means City have secured a second FA Cup final appearance in three years.

And Pablo Zabaleta told City's official website: "The first thing I am going to do on the bus is call him. For sure, he will have been watching the game. I will ask him if he is good to try and come for the final. I wish to bring all the family here and sometimes it is difficult but every time I win, they enjoy my success."

The right-back felt it was a difficult second half for City before they overcame Chelsea. After Samir Nasri and Sergio Aguero put them 2-0 up, Demba Ba brought Chelsea back into the game in a spell of concerted pressure.

Zabaleta added: "We did a great game, especially in the first half. We controlled the ball and created chances. The second half was very tough, they attacked with a lot of players and then we needed to defend deep. The spirit we showed in some parts of the game was fantastic. It is always special when you play at Wembley and get a result."
