Uruguay protests FIFA's Luis Suarez probe

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez could face action after he was caught on camera aiming a jab into the face of Chile's Gonzalo Jara during their World Cup qualifier.

The Uruguay Football Federation on Friday blasted FIFA for singling out Luis Suarez as a target after video was circulated of Suarez elbowing Chilean midfielder Gonzalo Jara during South American qualifiers last month.

FIFA let the Uruguay federation know it was opening a file on Suarez this week for the March 26 incident. Uruguay lost, 2-0, to Chile in Santiago in that qualifier.

Video footage shows a coming together between the Uruguay and Liverpool striker and the West Brom defender at a corner, after which Suarez appears to hit out in the direction of Jara's face.

Jara did not go to ground, with the pair instead trading words, while referee Nestor Pitana took no action. Pitana did later book Suarez for protesting, meaning he will be suspended for the next qualifier against Venezuela.

The defeat has left Uruguay in sixth place in the group, outside of the top four automatic qualification places.
