Dejagah ruled out for the season

Fulham midfielder Ashkan Dejagah has been ruled out for the remainder of the Premier League season following an ankle injury he suffered earlier this month.

• Blog: Hang on to Berba

Dejagah, 26, injured ligaments in his ankle after colliding with an advertising sign during Fulham's 3-2 win over QPR on April 1 and has been unable to run since.

Fulham boss Martin Jol confirmed the Iranian will undergo surgery next week and his unlikely to return until the pre-season.

"Ashkan Dejagah needs an operation on his ankle ligament," Jol said. "That will be next week and I think he will be out for the rest of the season."

Jol may also have another casualty for Saturday's trip to Aston Villa, confirming midfielder Eyong Enoh is not a certainty: "We will do an assessment tomorrow. He could probably play but we are not sure yet," Jol added.

Although Fulham currently sit in 10th, their Premier League status is not yet assured for another season, with the gap to 18th-placed Wigan just eight points.

Their next opponents are in a far worse predicament and in need of a win to give them some breathing space from the drop zone.

Jol believes his side cannot afford to let any of their rivals make up ground in the final rounds.

"I feel we need another win because you never know. Realistically we are fine but if everyone else starts winning in the last six or seven matches then you could have a problem," Jol said. "Hopefully we will get a couple of results in the next week or so.

"Overall we have done well away from home. There have maybe been too many draws and even at Newcastle we could have done better. It is disappointing to concede in the 93rd minute.

"They [Villa] have got quality. They have (Christian) Beneteke, (Gabriel) Agbonlahor, even (Darren) Bent on the bench. If you look at their results, especially at home, they are OK."
