Pardew worried about Toon fatigue

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew believes Sunderland are "slight favourites" ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday.

• Marveaux: We're not safe yet

The Magpies face Sunderland less than three days after their Europa league quarter-final second leg against Benfica and Pardew is aware that fatigue could be a factor that plays into the hands of the Wearsiders at St James' Park on Sunday.

"I think it's a disadvantage for us," Pardew told the Evening Chronicle. "To play Thursday night, and their management here to watch us go through a really tough game, is what I would want as an opposing manager.

"I think Sunderland will be slight favourites for that game. We'll see where we are after the [Benfica] game. The more experience you get in this division, the more you get used to it. It's a learning experience for them, but they're doing well."

Pardew also paid tribute to the Newcastle supporters, adding: "They are willing you to succeed. There are no negative feelings. They have stayed with us and been brilliant for us.

"It's just the sheer passion of this place and the fans showed that on Sunday when you look at the picture with them at Papiss. Not many clubs get that feeling and we owe so much to our supporters."
