Robson predicts Scholes retirement

Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson believes Paul Scholes may be forced to hang up his boots at the end of the season due to his recent injury problems.

While Ryan Giggs, 39, committed himself to the club for another year in March, Scholes, 38, has been struggling with a knee problem which has limited him to just 19 appearances this term.

Scholes originally retired from the game in May 2011 only to then change his mind six months later, but Robson, who played for United between 1981 and 1994, believes the midfielder could be about step away from the limelight for good in the summer.

"Giggsy has got another year, but he looks as fit as he was when he was 21," Robson said.

"Scholesy I'm not so sure about. He's been having a few problems with his knee. So I think he might just call it a day.

"Only he can answer whether or not he may register again in case of emergencies. But because of his attitude and the way he goes about training it is good to have him around the place.''

Scholes has not featured for United since their 4-1 FA Cup fourth-round defeat of Fulham on January 26.
