Dynamo punished by UEFA for racism

UEFA has ordered Dynamo Kiev to play their next European match in an empty stadium "due to racist conduct by supporters".

The sanction follows allegations of racism against the Ukrainian club's fans during home games versus Paris Saint-German in the Champions League in November and Bordeaux in the Europa League in February.

Dynamo Kiev, who have appealed the initial punishment, will face a further match behind closed doors if there is a repeat incident during a three-year probationary period.

A statement on the UEFA website read: "FC Dynamo Kiev have been ordered to play their next two UEFA competition home matches behind closed doors due to racist conduct by supporters.

"The first match behind closed doors applies to the next UEFA club competition match for which the club would qualify, while the sanction for the second match is deferred for a probationary period of three years.

"The Ukrainian club has lodged an appeal against this decision and the date of the UEFA Appeals Body hearing has yet to be decided."

On Wednesday, UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino outlined proposals that players or officials found guilty of racial abuse could face a minimum ten-match ban.

Infantino added that if there is racism in the stands at matches then clubs could face a partial closure of their stadium, as well as a fine, while further incidents could be met with "full closure of the stadium and a minimum fine of €50,000".
