Huntelaar returns to training

Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar returned to individual training on Tuesday following a knee injury that has sidelined the Netherlands international for several weeks.

Huntelaar, 29, picked up the injury during the Royal Blues' 2-1 win against Borussia Dortmund in early March.

The news is a huge boost for the club, who currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga, as they look to secure a place in the Champions League for next season.

The former Real Madrid man is delighted to be edging closer to his return but believes Schalke's weekend clash with third-placed Bayer Leverkusen will come too soon for him.

"It is a nice feeling to finally be back on the pitch," Huntelaar told the club's official website. "The game against Leverkusen is too early for me. After that we have to see what is possible. I want to be playing as soon as possible and help the team. Those four weeks were a testing time for me. It is not a secret a footballer wants to play."

Elsewhere, United States international Jermaine Jones could return in time for the Leverkusen game. The midfielder has missed the Royal Blues' two previous games due to injury but is likely to be available for the weekend.
