Mourinho relieved after UCL defeat
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has expressed his relief as his squad survived a 3-2 loss to Galatasaray to book a semi-final spot in the Champions League.
Madrid looked to be cruising into the last-four after taking a 3-0 first-leg lead into the Istanbul match, but goals to Didier Drogba. Wesley Sneijder and Emmanuel Eboue exposed Madrid's fragile lead.
However, a brace to Cristiano Ronaldo ensured the Spanish side would move through thanks to a 5-3 aggregate score-line.
And after the tense encounter, Mourinho said he was just happy a defeat had booked his side's progression into the semi-finals.
"We had (the Ronaldo opportunity) to score an open goal, and that would have made it 2-0," he told ITV.
"But because of their style of play, it was always going to be hard. I know that (Galatasaray) are strong mentally, I know they play with 50,000 plus 11.
"But we are in the semi-final and that's what really matters.
"The team was ready to work hard and they want to go to Wembley and play the final.
"Now we have a semi-final against a great team."
