Bowyer perplexed by India summoning

Blackburn caretaker-manager Gary Bowyer is understood to be surprised he was summoned to India by the club's owners, Venky's, at a time when Rovers have to concentrate on avoiding a second successive relegation.

Bowyer has had to miss two days' training this week to go to Pune, headquarters of the Rao family who own Rovers, for crisis talks about the Championship strugglers' problems.

Managing director Derek Shaw and operations director Paul Agnew were also ordered to go India, while global advisor Shebby Singh has been there since last Thursday.

But Bowyer, who has been charged with keeping Blackburn in the second tier, had hoped to spend the time preparing for Saturday's home game against Derby and Tuesday's relegation six-pointer with Huddersfield.

Rovers, who have not won any of their last 11 games, dropped into the bottom three for the first time when they lost to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

Bowyer, who is normally the reserve-team manager at Ewood Park, is in his second spell as caretaker-manager this season after Michael Appleton was sacked in March.

He is one of five men to manage Blackburn this season, along with Steve Kean, who resigned, Eric Black, the caretaker-manager in the autumn, and Henning Berg, who was sacked.

Rovers spent heavily in a bid to secure an immediate return to the Premier League and are also believed to have financial concerns with Berg, who only won one game in his 57-day spell in charge, pursuing them for £2 million in compensation.
