Milner: Derby win can spur City on
Manchester City goalscorer James Milner said he hoped his side's 2-1 derby win at Old Trafford would help them finish the season strongly.
The victory, sealed by a superb Sergio Aguero goal with 12 minutes remaining, saw City cut the gap on runaway leaders United to 12 points.
Although Phil Jones' header had earlier ricocheted in off City's Vincent Kompany to level the scores, Roberto Mancini's men deserved their victory- and Milner told Sky Sports 1 it could help them finish purposefully in both the Premier League and the FA Cup.
"Every derby is a massive one, and we wanted to come and put in a performance,'' he said. "We deserved the win at what is always a tough place to come. It was a great result, and we will want to keep the momentum until the end of the season.
"We worked very hard and got a win. United are tough to break down at Old Trafford, where they have an excellent record."
Kompany said the better side had won, adding: "We worked very hard and we gave them few chances.
"We were the better team. Every game we play to win and the way we finish the season can have an impact on the next, when we will start from the beginning. This is a good game to have under our belt."
Goal hero Aguero wrote on Twitter: "Thrilled about the victory, and I'd like to especially dedicate my goal to my son Ben. C'mon @MCFC !! Fight til the end!!"
