AVB: Chelsea, City will decide Spurs' fate

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas believes his side's hopes of a place in next season's Champions League rests in the forthcoming games against Chelsea and Manchester City.

• Blog: Plucky understudies fail

Tottenham slipped out of the Premier League's top-three after being held to a 2-2 draw by Everton at White Hart Lane.

But with only six games remaining in the season, and local rivals Arsenal only two points behind with a game in hand, Villas-Boas remains confident his squad holds its top-four destiny in its own hands.

However, the Portuguese coach did admit the remaining fixtures had left his squad with its work cut out for them.

"We probably have the second-worst run-in," he told reporters at White Hart Lane. "I think the race for the top four depends on our results against Manchester City and Chelsea.

"It looks like it will go down between these teams."

The draw against Everton continues a poor run by the north London club, with Spurs recording only one victory in its last six games.

But Villas-Boas denied any suggestion of a form slump, preferring to give Everton its dues for a strong performance away from Merseyside.

"Credit to Everton because of their organisation and how good they can be," Villas-Boas said. "In the end it was important for us to salvage a point against a team that was fighting for the same objectives as us.

"Everton are a strong team and they had good chances. If you give them a small amount of space they punish you and they did ever so well and were a great opponent. It was an entertaining game of football but I don't agree that we relaxed."
