Heynckes confident of Bayern treble

Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes has set his sights on completing the coveted treble after the Bavarian side clinched the Bundesliga title with a 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

• Schaaf: Bayern Deutschermeister!

Bastian Schweinsteiger scored the decisive goal as Bayern wrapped up their 23rd league title after just 28 games.

Heynckes' side take a 2-0 lead into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Juventus on Wednesday and face Wolfsburg in the German Cup semi-final on April 16.

While Bayern celebrated their Bundesliga victory, Heynckes is confident this season can yield further success for his charges.

"The fact that we have won the title after 28 games is extraordinary, it's simply fantastic," he said. "One of the things FC Bayern have demonstrated this season is that we're a top side, but we have done it with harmony in the team. We can be confident we will achieve something in the Champions League."

President Uli Hoeness has backed Bayern to round out a monumental season with the treble, although he admits his surprise at the champions' dominance over second-placed Borussia Dortmund.

"Of course, winning the Champions League is our next goal," Hoeness said. "The DFB-Pokal is a wonderful thing, especially for the fans. If you reach the final, there's always a huge festival going on in Berlin. But one thing is clear; the Champions League is the league of the kings, where we want to get as far as possible.

"Borussia Dortmund have really annoyed us for two years but we have now responded with winning the title six matchdays before the season end, and with a 20-point advantage too. We gave a wonderful response to the challenge Dortmund put upon us, and overall this league title is a fantastic thing."
