PSG march on

Paris St Germain warmed up for Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Barcelona with a 2-0 victory at Rennes, which restored their seven-point advantage over Marseille at the top of Ligue 1.

With one eye on their midweek trip to the Nou Camp, PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti opted to rest some of his star names including David Beckham, Javier Pastore, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Lucas Moura from his starting line-up.

But, despite that, second-half goals from Jeremy Menez and Zlatan Ibrahimovic proved enough to claim all three points and keep the capital club a healthy distance clear of second-placed OM, who beat Bordeaux 1-0 last night.

Rennes' failure to score for a third game in four meant the hosts had won just once at home since the turn of the year, and Frederic Antonetti's men had all but thrown away their chances of European qualification.

Substitute Kevin Anin grabbed a dramatic stoppage-time winner as Nice boosted their European hopes with a 4-3 win at Toulouse.

The game was finely poised at 2-2 at the interval, Eric Bautheac starting and finishing the first-half scoring with Wissam Ben Yedder and Etienne Capoue on target for the hosts in between.

Dario Cvitanich's strike midway through the second half restored the visitors' lead, but Ben Yedder's second of the game got Nice back level only for Anin to edge TFC ahead again at the death.

As if the goal action was not enough to keep the crowd on the edges of their seats, there were also late red cards for Toulouse goalkeeper Ali Ahamada and Nice substitute Alexy Bosetti to add further spice to the occasion.

The result lifted Claude Puel's Nice to fourth spot and left Alain Casanova's Toulouse 11th in the standings.

Montpellier revived their European bid with a 3-1 win over free-falling Valenciennes at the Stade de la Mosson.

Second-half goals from Daniel Congre and Younes Belhanda ensured the Ligue 1 champions ended a three-game winless run. It also closed the gap on the European places, with fourth-placed Nice three points ahead, although St Etienne and Lille could extend that gap on Sunday.

Relegation-threatened Brest slumped to a fourth successive defeat in Corentin Martins' first match in charge, with Florian Thauvin scoring twice in a 4-0 victory for Bastia.

Martins took over on an interim basis when Landry Chevin was sacked last week but was unable to arrest the slide.

It took Bastia 41 minutes to break the deadlock through Wahbi Khazri, but they had time to add three more as Thauvin's brace and Anthony Modeste's penalty punished the visitors, who also lost goalkeeper Joan Hartock to a late red card.

Sochaux and Ajaccio both remain in the midst of a battle against relegation following a goalless draw at the Stade Auguste Bonal.

An impressive win against Lyon last time out along with this point sees Sochaux two points above the drop zone and, although Ajaccio are four points clear, they are on a poor run of form.

Nancy's revival continued with a 1-0 win at home to relegation rivals Troyes.

Substitute Romain Grange scored the second-half winner seven minutes after coming on to lift the hosts to within a point of safety. It was their third straight league win and the fourth in five, indicating the momentum is firmly with Nancy in the fight for survival.
