Bould: Bayern win gave us confidence

Arsenal have drawn strength from their 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in their chase to finish in the top four, according to assistant coach Steve Bould.

• Limbert: Silence speaks volumes

The Gunners went out of the Champions League on away goals, having lost 3-1 to the German giants at the Emirates, but a famous victory at the Allianz Arena has seen them turn around their form in the Premier League and move within two points of the Champions League places.

Indeed, wins over Swansea and Reading, coupled with a slump in form for rivals Tottenham and Chelsea has left the European race wide open and Bould believes his side are full of confidence now.

"The big thing for us was getting the big result at Bayern," he said. "We're only the second team to have won there this season so it's given everybody a belief that we're doing all right. It was an important game for us."

Bould, filling in for Arsene Wenger who has lost his voice, also claimed that the 2-1 defeat at Tottenham before the Bayern game was a wake-up call to his players.

"I'm hoping that (the loss to Tottenham) is the big turning point. We played really well on the day and I think we absolutely deserved more than we got," he added. "Two defensive errors and we got punished by good players and that's what happens. Everybody has realised that clean sheets win games a lot of the time. We've improved."
