Rowdy fans have been put on notice with extra police to patrol the A-League finals series kick-off in Melbourne.
Extra mounted police and foot patrols will monitor crowd behaviour as Melbourne Victory take on Perth Glory at Etihad Stadium on Friday.
Unruly fans could be docked with hefty on-the-spot fines of up to $563 for riotous, indecent or offensive behaviour, police say.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Rick Nugent says families should feel safe at the game.
"Generally, most people are keen to get along to the match and watch an exciting game of soccer," he said.
"Police won't let a small group of fans ruin that experience for anyone."
Transit police will also assist with public transport management around the venue.
