De Bruyne told to move to 'bigger club'

Chelsea have told on-loan midfielder Kevin de Bruyne that he should be playing at a higher level, rather than his current club Werder Bremen.

De Bruyne, 21, is contracted to the Premier League club until 2017 but has yet to make an appearance for them as he has been building his skills out on loan.

However, the Blues want the Belgium international to move to a bigger club despite the fact that Bremen had hoped to extend his loan deal for one more year.

“Chelsea have decided I should play on a higher level to develop even better,” he told the press on Wednesday. “I had a good year. I played a lot and on a solid level. That was fantastic for me, I am very happy with this year.”

De Bruyne has been linked with a move to Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen, with fresh reports from Belgium also linking the versatile midfielder to Borussia Dortmund, but European competition seems to be the goal.

“It is my plan to compete in Europe next season,” De Bruyne added, explaining that that if he doesn’t stay at Chelsea he has been told to “move on to a bigger club”.

The Belgian will return to the Blues for their pre-season camp this summer to decide whether he has a future in London.

Speaking to Syker Kreiszeitung, Bremen general manger Thomas Eichin said: “It is not decided yet what Chelsea plan for De Bruyne.”
