Saints bite back after Rodgers dig

David Beckham open to England call

Barcelona face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League hoping to make a better start than they did in the previous round.

Former England captain David Beckham said he has not given up hope of playing for his country in the future, according to a report.

"I'm almost 38 so the chances are very slight, but you never know," the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder told CNN World Sport on Tuesday. "One of the reasons I never retired from the England team is because, if there's ever an opportunity to play for them again, I'm available."

Beckham was preparing with PSG to face Barcelona in the quarterfinals of the Champions League Tuesday. England's most capped outfield player has not played for his country since October of 2009. He joined PSG at the end of January after five years with the LA Galaxy in the MLS.

"If there is any chance of me ever playing for my country again, I would never turn that down," he told CNN.

Beckham, who has 115 caps for England, joined Carlo Ancelotti's side on a five-month deal in January, and his brief contribution has helped the capital club book a Champions League quarterfinal with Barcelona as well as consolidate their position at the top of Ligue 1.

"Recruiting David was one of my best decisions," Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said Monday in an interview with L'Equipe.

"He is very happy in Paris. Frankly, we want to keep him with us next season."

Beckham has started once and made four substitute appearances for PSG since signing and confirmed on Saturday he is open to extending his stay.

His involvement against Barcelona remains for Ancelotti to decide.
