Popovic hopeful Ono will be ready for semi

Western Sydney coach Tony Popovic is hopeful star Shinji Ono and a group of key injured players will be ready to play in next week's A-League semi-final.

Ono (groin), Aaron Mooy (knee) and defenders Adam D'Apuzzo (foot) and Jerome Polenz (quad) are all racing the clock to be fit for the Wanderers' home semi on April 12.

Popovic says the week off will give his injured players an opportunity to recuperate ahead of the clash at Parramatta Stadium.

"Come early next week we'll certainly have a better indication on who is ... available," he told reporters on Tuesday.

"The first few days this week is just about freshening the players up and obviously we will work harder towards the latter part of the week.

"We're quite comfortable with the players' fitness levels that they'll be ready for the game."

All ran for the first time on Monday during a light training session, although Popovic says he won't be taking their availability for granted.

"We'll keep assessing that daily," he said.

"We're hopeful that they'll make themselves available but that's something to look into more closely early next week."

With marquee man Ono pushing through his first training session on Monday without issue, Popovic is keen to pick up the intensity in coming days.

"It really is a day-by-day proposition to see how his body is and how his groin responds," the coach said.

The Wanderers last Friday secured the Premiers' Plate in their maiden A-League season with a 3-0 victory over Newcastle.
