Ronaldo: Gung-ho Gala could help Madrid

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has said Galatasaray's attacking style could play into his side's hands in Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Bernabeu.

• Yilmaz: Gala ready for Real battle

Real have had trouble in La Liga when teams have sat back and defended this season, and a cagey Manchester United got a 1-1 draw in Madrid in their last-16 first leg.

However, the Turkish champions' coach Fatih Terim has said his side will look to take the game to their hosts on Wednesday - something Ronaldo said he would be more than happy to see.

"We know they are a team that also likes to attack a lot," the Portugal captain told Madrid's official website. "That is good for us, because we have a better chance to win when opponents play us one-on-one."

Playing the first leg at home was neither an advantage nor a disadvantage, the attacker said, adding: "It is nothing special because we have to play both matches and win.

"Playing at home or away first is not an advantage, for me it is all the same. The tie will be wide open and very balanced."

The tie will bring together the two top scorers in the Champions League, with Galatasaray's Burak Yilmaz and Ronaldo both having scored eight times so far, one ahead of last season's leading scorer Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo said he had been impressed with Yilmaz's achievements so far, adding: "He is doing well in the Champions League.

"It is difficult to score eight goals. As always, we must be focused. Our defenders will have to be alert."

Ronaldo also hailed the form of team-mate Mesut Ozil, saying he was "in really top form and he is an important player for us".

"He has proved in recent seasons that he is a key player for us," he said. "I love playing with him because he is a really talented player and we understand each other very well. I am really comfortable with him."

And the former Manchester United man said Madrid's recent form, including the Old Trafford win that put them into the last eight, gave them confidence for the challenges ahead.

"Things are going well for us, we have more confidence and we are on a good run," he explained. "I hope we can stay this way until the end of the season."

With Barcelona, 13 points clear at the top of La Liga, having all but wrapped up the domestic title, Jose Mourinho's Madrid were firmly focused on claiming La Decima - a long-awaited tenth European cup success - Ronaldo said.

"We know that everyone in Madrid wants the Decima and it is a club objective," he added.

"The players know how important it is to win the Champions League. The squad is good, we are in good form and now we are up against Galatasaray, a good team. We can go through but we must keep going like this, taking things step by step."
