Giroud: We must keep best players

Olivier Giroud believe it is vital Arsenal retain the services of their best players if they are to progress as a team and end their trophy drought.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has seen a number of high-profile names leave the club in recent seasons, with the likes of Robin van Persie seeking pastures new as he joined Manchester United last summer.

Giroud, who signed for the Gunners from Montpellier in 2012, admits the club cannot afford to continue to lose their best players if they are lift silverware for the first time since 2005.

The France international told Sky Sports News: "First you need to keep your best players, that's so important. After that, maybe you need more money.

"But Manchester United every year buy one or two players. They manage to keep their best players, I think that's the main thing to do."

Giroud also said he has no regrets about choosing to sign for Arsenal, after being linked with a move to Bayern Munich before leaving Montpellier for North London.

He added: "Munich were not ready to take a decision. I was really happy to sign for Arsenal. "Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires, Sylvain Wiltord, Emmanuel Petit - there have been a lot of French players, so that's why I supported this team."
