Coventry hit with ten-point deduction

League One Coventry City have been deducted ten points after part of the club was put into administration last week, the Football League has confirmed.

In a statement, the League said the deduction had been made "in accordance with rules and regulations". It means the Sky Blues fall from tenth to 14th in the League One table.

The statement said: "This sporting sanction has been implemented with immediate effect. Coventry City have seven days in which to appeal."

League officials said discussions with administrators had begun in an attempt to ensure that the 1987 FA Cup-winners had "a sustainable future within the Football League".

Earlier on Thursday, Coventry announced that they had agreed a deal with their Ricoh Arena landlords that would enable them to play their final three home games of the season at the ground.

Last week, Coventry said part of the club had been put into administration. Coventry City Football Ltd went into administration on Thursday, with the club saying Coventry City Football Club (Holdings) would continue as its trading arm.

A club statement said Coventry City Football Ltd was "merely a property subsidiary which owns no material assets and has no employees, on or off the pitch".

It added: "It is important to stress that the football club itself is not under threat."
