Alcaraz not thinking about Wembley

Antolin Alcaraz has insisted that Wigan's Premier League match against Norwich is more important than their FA Cup semi-final clash with Millwall at Wembley.

If Athletic defeat the Championship Lions on April 13 to reach the final, they will almost certainly secure European football for the first time in their history.

With Manchester City playing either Manchester United or Chelsea in the other semi, and those three sides likely to qualify for Europe through the league, the FA Cup Europa League spot would go to Wigan, Millwall or Blackburn.

But Paraguay international defender Alcaraz is adamant that survival is the priority for Wigan, who are in the bottom three and face relegation rivals QPR after Norwich.

He told the Wigan Evening Post: "We have Wembley to look forward to, but for me the most important game is always the next one and that is Norwich City.

"We will worry about the FA Cup when it comes around next month. For now, we must concentrate on the league because there are some important games coming up.

"We have shown in the last few games that we can win games in this league, and we must keep that up if we are to move away from the bottom of the table."

Alcaraz's campaign has been interrupted by a groin injury, which kept him out from the end of August until March.

But he has started Wigan's last two games and they have won both, beating Everton in the FA Cup and Newcastle in the Premier League.

He added: "My season only really started two weeks ago. Everything before that I have forgotten about because it was not so good. Fortunately, there is still time for me to make a difference."
