Veh agrees new Frankfurt deal

Eintracht Frankfurt coach Armin Veh has agreed a new one-year contract extension at the club, putting an end to speculation linking him with a move to Schalke.

Veh has impressed since taking over the reins at Frankfurt in 2011, gaining promotion to the top flight in his first season, while the club currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga this term.

With Schalke believed to be in the market for a new coach for next season, the former Hamburg boss was touted in the German media as a possible candidate and was reportedly offered an annual salary of €4 million by the Royal Blues.

However, Frankfurt confirmed on their official website on Monday that Veh will be staying put until 2014.

The statement read: "After this past week, the contract terms were defined, and the CEO of Eintracht Frankfurt, Heribert Bruchhagen, announced this morning that coach Armin Veh will extend his contract for another year, until 2014."

Bruchhagen said of the agreement: "I am delighted that we have managed to create continuity in sport."

The signing of the new contract will take place on Tuesday afternoon during a scheduled press conference.

Schalke are now rumoured to be focusing their attention on former Chelsea manager Robert Di Matteo, while other options being considered are current coach Jens Keller and former Greuther Furth boss Mike Buskens.
