Mariners deal is completed

The ownership transition of A-League club Central Coast was ratified on Monday, giving players hope their pay woes are over.

The Mariners released a statement on Monday night, noting English businessman Mike Charlesworth is now officially the majority owner.

"Central Coast Mariners FC are pleased to confirm that all legal documents relating to the change of majority ownership of the club have this afternoon been executed," the statement said.

Former owner Peter Turnbull remains club chairman.

Charlesworth, an existing director and one of the club's shareholders, had agreed to a substantial fresh investment into the Mariners.

It's expected the injection of funds will allow the immediate payment of players, coaches and staff - with staff having not been paid on time last week.

"Could really do with some pay today. #pushthebuttonplease," defender Josh Rose tweeted on Monday afternoon.

The move means foundation shareholder Lyall Gorman, who is now executive chairman of A-League rivals Western Sydney Wanderers, severs his ties with the Mariners.
