Bierhoff: Germany can't win World Cup

German football chief Oliver Bierhoff believes the German team has an 'almost impossible' chance of winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The former German striker's comment would come as a blow to the German national squad as they prepare to face Kazakhstan on Wednesday.

But it is not only Germany who face a mission impossible style task of claiming the title of world champions in Brazil according to Bierhoff, the 44-year-old dismissing the chances of any country placed outside the South American continent.

"For us, it is almost impossible to win the tournament," Bierhoff said in a press conference. "It is a really big mountain (to climb).

"The South American sides are usually more advanced (in their own continent)."

However, Bierhoff was confident the Germans would make next year's finals, hinting at where the squad would be based for the duration of the competition.

The Germans lead their qualification group with 13 points. Sweden are second on eight points, ahead of Austria and Republic of Ireland who are a further point adrift.

"We are not planning where we will stay in Brazil because we do not know which group we will play in," Bierhoff revealed.

"But it would not be in the extreme north or south of Brazil."
