Hoffenheim players defend Wiese

Hoffenheim players have spoken out in support of goalkeeper Tim Wiese who has been told to train alone after being dropped from the first team.

Former Germany goalkeeper Wiese is no longer able to train with the first-team after being reprimanded by coach Marco Kurz for indiscipline, and he now faces an uncertain future at the club.

However, he has received support from some of his fellow players who have criticised Hoffenheim's hardline stance.

"Tim has certainly made mistakes, but I don't think the way he is being treated is correct," captain Sejad Salihovic told Bild. "He has achieved a lot and he is one of the best goalkeepers around."

Midfielder Tobias Weis added that Wiese's presence "is being missed" and that "the time has come for him to return to the team."

Wiese only joined Hoffenheim last summer, but soon fell out of favour with the club's fans, who were unhappy to see him arrive in place of fans' favourite Tom Starke, who subsequently moved to Bayern Munich.

His place in the Hoffenheim goal has been taken by Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes who joined on loan during the January transfer window.
