Coleman hits out at Brown's Bale remarks

Wales manager Chris Coleman has criticised Dundee manager John Brown after he indicated that Scotland should target winger Gareth Bale when the sides meet at Hampden on Friday.

Coleman spoke out after Brown said: "You know what you do, with the pace he has got and the close control... you can't run without legs."

The Wales boss said: "It's Neanderthal to think like that. That's not football any more.

"Football is a contact sport, and don't take that out of it. But if there is any rough stuff, I'm sure the referee will do his job - and I'm happy to play against ten men or nine men."

His comments were echoed by Scotland manager Gordon Strachan, who said: "The days of Chopper Harris are gone."

Bale, who has suffered a recent virus, travelled to Glasgow apart from the rest of the Wales squad as Coleman attempted to prevent illness disrupting their build-up.

The Tottenham star missed Wednesday's training session in Wales because of the virus but spent half an hour training alone on Thursday prior to joining up with his team-mates.

"Gareth's had a bit of a virus and he flew up later than us," Coleman explained. "Hopefully, after a good night's sleep, he'll be ready tomorrow.

"If there are any doubts about him, he won't play because we cannot take the risk. Unless he, or any other player, is 100%, we can't take the risk.

"But, at the minute, we are optimistic everything will be fine. He has a very, very good chance of playing. He wants to be here."
