Gotze could imagine Barca move

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze has told Sport1 he could imagine joining a club such as Manchester United, Barcelona or Real Madrid at some point of his career.

Gotze, 20, said he would relish the challenge of playing in another league, with his comments coming a day after Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc said he would love to keep the Germany international at the club for the rest of his career.

“I’d like to leave my options open,” Gotze said. “Clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United are attractive.

“In other leagues, you could develop further - but I’m not thinking that far ahead right now.

“I am happy at Dortmund and delighted about the way things are going. I would not have extended my contract [until 2016] otherwise.”

Spanish newspaper AS, meanwhile, has reported that Barcelona want Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

The paper said the Catalan club saw the 22-year-old defensive midfielder as a successor to Xavi, 33.

Gundogan, who joined Dortmund from Nurnberg in a €4 million deal in 2011, is rated at close to €20 million.

The Germany international, however, said the speculation was news to him and added: “I consider myself very lucky to be allowed to play for Dortmund.”

Dortmund chief executive Aki Watzke ruled out selling Gundogan, whose contract runs until 2015, telling Bild: “We would not sell Ilkay for all the money in the world.”
