Taylor played with broken jaw

West Ham United midfielder Matt Taylor has revealed he played in the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend with a fractured jaw.

Taylor sustained the injury in the 1-0 victory over Stoke City at the start of the month, when Peter Crouch attempted an overhead kick and connected with the 30-year-old's head, leaving him unconscious.

"I remember the ball going over my head and that is it," Taylor said in the East London Advertiser. "I've seen images and watched it back and it doesn't make very nice viewing, but it is probably a good thing that I don't really remember it."

Taylor has yet to fully recover from the effects of the challenge but, as he had overcome the effects of concussion, he told manager Sam Allardyce he would be available for the Chelsea match

"I have got a small fracture somewhere in my jaw and it is a bit sore now, but it is just one of those things that will heal and I was given the choice whether I was happy to continue playing with it and I was," he said.

Taylor, who played the second half of the match at Stamford Bridge, added: "It is not something that is going to cause me too many problems in the future, providing I don't go in for any challenges like the one that actually hurt it!"
