Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone believes Diego Costa is on the right path but must keep improving, after the club's man of the moment scored both goals in Sunday's 2-0 La Liga win at Osasuna.
Costa, 24, has four goals in his last six Atletico games, helping the side overcome a relatively-recent fallow spell for strike partner Radamel Falcao.
Such form has brought a senior Brazil call-up for the rampaging centre-forward, who could make his debut in Thursday's friendly against Italy in Geneva should an ankle injury sustained late in Sunday's game not prove too serious.
The Argentine coach told reporters after the game in Pamplona that Costa had played very well, but must keep adding to his game.
"He must keep improving," Simeone said. "Against Osasuna we tried to take advantage of his power up front, coming from out on the left. He is growing and we hope he keeps doing that. He, like all the team, played a great game."
Atletico's win kept them just one point behind city rivals Real Madrid in the race for La Liga's second spot. Los Colchoneros had shown good character and spirit to bounce back from recent poor results, according to Simeone.
"Everyone knows already what I think," he said. "We try to compete from game to game. The team showed character, quality and a competitive spirit. We will keep on this line. It was not an easy game here in Pamplona. If you do not play as you should, you have a lot of problems, but from the first minute we knew what to do."
