Fans arrested over alleged racism

Two men have been arrested over alleged racially-aggravated offences following Sunday's game between Chelsea and West Ham, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.

The pair have been bailed and will return later this month, with police confirming that the two men were from the section of West Ham fans at Stamford Bridge.

The police are also investigating incidents of coin-throwing that took place during the Premier League clash. Coins and other objects, including bottles and a hot dog, were thrown in the direction of Chelsea's players as they celebrated Frank Lampard's goal in front of the away supporters. John Terry is also believed to have been struck by a missile while warming up by the West Ham fans.

The Football Association has said it will discuss matters with the police and the two clubs involved before deciding whether to launch their own investigation.

Chelsea and West Ham will work together to investigate the incident, with CCTV footage being studied in an attempt to identify the targets.

The Hammers could be punished by the FA over what happened, and released a statement in which they said anyone found to have thrown coins faced the possibility of a ban.

"Any individual found to have acted in an inappropriate way will have to face the consequences of their actions, including the possibility of a ban from attending future matches,'' the statement said.

Chelsea ran out 2-0 winners against the Hammers, thanks to goals from Lampard and Eden Hazard.
