Didier Drogba has not been named in Ivory Coast's 28-man squad for the World Cup qualifier with Gambia in Abidjan.
Galatasaray striker Drogba, 35, is among six players from the African Nations Cup squad who have been omitted. The others are Emmanuel Eboue, Romaric, Daniel Yeboah, Igor Lolo and Siaka Tiene.
The Ivorian FA are yet to confirm why the veteran has missed out although there have been reports of tensions between Drogba and coach Sabri Lamouchi in the past, with the former Chelsea player dropped for a game during this year's failed African Nations Cup tournament in South Africa.
Drogba was deemed to be short on match fitness at the time but has since helped Galatasaray qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals.
They lead World Cup Group C with four points from two games while Gambia are bottom on one point.
