Thiago Silva urges PSG to keep focus

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has said the club must not allow their Champions League dream to derail their Ligue 1 title bid.

• Johnson: PSG get the desired draw
• Tomas: Barca's hard-earned privilege

Having been drawn against Barcelona for the Champions League quarter-finals, PSG have been handed a perfect opportunity to prove their European credentials, but the big-spending French side also have their sights set on a first league title since 1994.

They are currently four points clear of second-placed Lyon, but sporting director Leonardo recently warned that the squad is "not [made] for France" and Thiago Silva acknowledges that there is still much to be done.

"Winning the Champions League's our main objective," he told Ligue1.com. "We're all dreaming about that, but we have to be careful because sometimes we look like a different team in Europe.

"We have to understand that, while the Champions League is a big competition, the league is just as important. Don't forget, Paris haven't won the league for 18 years! It's good to be top but we haven't won anything yet. Marseille and Lyon aren't far behind. We have to keep working hard to achieve our goal."

The defender also offered words of praise to coach Carlo Ancelotti, whom he had also worked with during his time at AC Milan.

"I've worked with a lot of coaches in my career, but one man stands out, and that's Mr Ancelotti," he said. "It wasn't easy for me to find my feet when I first arrived in Europe. When I joined AC Milan I didn't play for six months, but I was training under a great coach in Carlo Ancelotti. I can't stress how important those six months were - they changed my life."
