Deschamps: Evra won't captain France

Patrice Evra has been told that he will not be restored as captain of France as long as Didier Deschamps is coaching the national team.

Evra was Les Bleus skipper at the 2010 World Cup but was mired in controversy after leading a players' revolt against then-boss Raymond Domenech.

The Manchester United defender was banned by the French Football Federation for his role, and was lambasted by media and fans alike for the incident.

The reign of Laurent Blanc as France coach brought mixed fortunes for Evra, but ultimately he found himself on the bench for the majority of Euro 2012, with Manchester City left-back Gael Clichy preferred.

Evra has managed to re-establish himself as an international regular since Blanc left - starting each of Les Bleus' three World Cup qualifiers - but despite some impressive performances and a relationship with Deschamps that stretches back to his time at Monaco, he will not captain his country again under the current regime.

"I don't have any problems with Evra but he knows he won't be captain under me and he knows why," Deschamps said.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is the man currently entrusted with the armband for France, who take on Georgia and Spain in upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
