Cisse: Newcastle's fans best in world

Papiss Cissé has described Newcastle fans as 'the best in the world' - with the Senegal striker expecting a special atmosphere during Thursday night's Europa League tie.

• Blog: Starved of success

Cissé, 27, joined the Magpies from SC Freiburg in January 2012 at a cost of £9 million. Currently enjoying a good run of form with three goals in his last six Premier League games, the striker is hoping to provide the club's fans with more reasons to celebrate by conquering Russian opponents Anzhi.

"The fans can give us even more presence," he told the Evening Chronicle. "I am sure a lot of fans will come because they love this team. They are the best fans in the world to me. Now it is down to us to give them even more pleasure by winning. I wouldn't say we can go all the way just yet - but we'll do our best. It would be nice to get to the final and then see how we go.

"It was a great feeling to score in the last minute [v Stoke] and help the team win. The team can still move up the table even further. The win over Stoke was very good for us. It was an opportunity to take three points and move away from danger, which we did.

"The fans are happy now too, which is important. We have a very good team now. We train together well and starting to show on the pitch, you can see results. When you train together and everybody enjoys it, it can only help the team."

Speaking at an event for the 'Friends of Sedhiou' - a charity which aims to improve the region of Sedhiou in Senegal - Cisse also revealed the pleasure he takes from meetings the club's fans.

"I like meeting the supporters and I am able to enjoy the night with them," he said. "It's not something I am able to do everyday. When you get the chance to do so it is a pleasure. It helps to raise the money for the hospital, and the fact the Newcastle fans are helping as well means so much to me."
