Macheda to Lazio deal down to Stuttgart

Lazio want to bring Manchester United striker Federico Macheda back to Italy but his agent claims the player’s future is in the hands of Stuttgart, where he is currently on loan.

Macheda, 21, began his career at Lazio before United swooped to sign him at the age of 16 – a move that caused much consternation at the Serie A club at the time.

However, the Italy Under-21 international’s agent Giovanni Bia says the Biancocelesti now wish to do business with the Premier League leaders, and welcome Macheda back to Rome.

Bia admits, though, that his client’s fate is no longer really in United’s hands as Stuttgart, where he has been on loan since January, have an option to make the deal permanent this summer.

"For the moment there is not that possibility [of a move to Lazio], “Bia told TuttoMercatoWeb. “He is fine in Germany, the club are very pleased.

"Lazio is the club where he grew he up and they would like him to come home, but it all depends on Stuttgart, who have the option to buy him at the end of the season. "

Macheda has yet to score in five appearances for Stuttgart, and faced similar struggles during loan spells at QPR in 2012 and Sampdoria in 2011.

The Italian forward burst onto the scene in 2009, scoring a dramatic late winner on his United debut against Aston Villa, a result that helped swing the title pendulum towards the Red Devils from Liverpool.
