Cristiano Ronaldo says that 2013 could be shaping up to be the best year of his career.
The Real Madrid attacker has scored 19 goals in 16 games since the turn of the year - breathtaking scoring pace even for him.
Speaking on Tuesday at the recording of a new television advert for Portuguese bank Banco Espirito Santo, he admitted that things were going well at the moment and he was full of confidence.
"This could be my best year, things are going well for me," Ronaldo said. "I am more confident at the moment. This year has started really well."
The Portugal captain, who turned 28 last month, once again stressed that team trophies were now more important to him than personal achievements.
"On a personal level things are going well for me," Ronaldo said. "But I only think of helping the team to win the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. We know the league is very difficult at this point, but we must keep fighting until the end."
Recent wins over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-finals and La Liga, and last week's elimination of his former club Manchester United from the Champions League, have brought surging confidence in Madrid that this season could finally bring the club's long awaited tenth European Cup.
Although everyone at Madrid was currently full of confidence, it was still a bit early to make predictions like that, Ronaldo said.
"It is still difficult to say we are going to win la Decima," he said. "We know there is still a lot to fight for, but the team is in a good moment. We have won two games against Barcelona, and also beaten Manchester United. So we are confident and buzzing. Now we must keep our feet on the ground because there is a long way to go."
