Ankle injury rules Miyaichi out for season
Wigan's Japan international Ryo Miyaichi will miss the remainder of the season after suffering an ankle injury in Saturday's 3-0 FA Cup win over Everton.
It means the on-loan Arsenal winger will be denied the distinction of becoming the first Japanese footballer to appear in an FA Cup final, should the Latics beat Millwall or Blackburn in their April semi-final.
Miyaichi came on for goalscorer Callum McManaman at Goodison Park but had to be substituted himself.
And while manager Roberto Martinez did not initially think it would be a long-term problem, he has now revealed that the 20-year-old's campaign is over.
Miyaichi, who made 14 appearances on loan at Bolton last season, has had an injury-hit year at the DW Stadium.
He injured his groin on international duty in November and Saturday's game at Goodison Park was his first appearance since then.
In total, he played seven times for Wigan, with his only start coming at West Ham in the Capital One Cup in September.
However, McManaman, who was also injured at Everton, is not expected to be out for long.
