Villa: Poor form forgotten after Milan win

David Villa claims Barcelona never doubted they would progress to the Champions League quarter-finals after defeating AC Milan 4-0 in the second leg of their tie on Tuesday.

Villa, 31, scored Barca's third goal to give his side a 3-2 aggregate lead, with a Lionel Messi brace and Jordi Alba's late strike sealing the rout.

With a 2-0 deficit to recover from the first leg in Milan, Villa admits Barca had no concerns about playing with caution and were confident they could complete the comeback to avenge thei recent poor form.

"We went for the win from the first minute," Villa said. "We believed we could do it from the start. We deserved it. With this, all the bad times are forgotten. After experiencing what we did tonight we don't care who we get in the quarter finals."

Barca defender Pique admitted Messi's fifth-minute goal helped relieve some of the pressure for the hosts.

"I think we believed [we could do it] from the first minute," he told ITV. "Scoring early helped a lot. The atmosphere was amazing. I think we played really well. We were a better team than them."

Goalscorer Alba has warned his team-mates they must avoid a repeat of their disappointing first leg performance as they head into the quarter-finals.

"We have known some suffering recently," he said. "But now we must continue on this line. We have to stay with the intensity we showed here tonight."

Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini conceded the Rossoneri were simply outplayed by Barca and must now turn their attention to securing a place in next year's competition.

"It's the end of a dream. We were not up to it tonight. We suffered from the start and it wasn't the performance we needed," he said.

"It is a learning experience, one we gladly would've avoided. I can only hope it can serve us well for the future. Now our objective is to get back into the competition."
