Myhill pens new contract with West Brom

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Boaz Myhill has signed a two-year contract extension tying him to the club until the summer of 2016.

Myhill joined WBA from Hull City

Myhill has committed his future to the club before he moved into the last year of his deal this summer, and there is also the option of a further year in the club's favour.

Albion's sporting and technical director Richard Garlick said: "We've seen this season it is important to have a good No. 2. Boaz has definitely contributed to our success and stepped up to the plate when Ben Foster was injured.

"In the Premier League, it is vital you have a No. 2 you can trust in but also a No. 2 that can push your No. 1. Everyone at the club has faith in both of them and, with Luke Daniels, we've got a good set of three keepers who push each other in training and have a good understanding with each other.

"It is testament to the work [goalkeeper coach] Dean Kiely has done that we have such a strong unit, where all the keepers are happy to support each other no matter who is playing."

Myhill caught the eye on occasions when he was called upon to cover for Foster before Christmas due to a hernia injury. During a seven-game League run in November and December, he helped secure successive wins against Wigan, Chelsea and Sunderland, and a goalless draw with West Ham.

The California-born former Hull man has firmly established himself back at the Hawthorns after a successful season-long loan in the Championship at Birmingham – the club from whom Albion signed Foster, initially on loan.

The 30-year-old, who moved for an undisclosed fee from Hull in August 2010, remains a key part of the Wales squad, with 14 international caps to his name. He has made 20 senior appearances for the Baggies.
