UEFA rejects Lazio appeal

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has expressed his frustration after UEFA rejected the club's appeal against a stadium ban.

UEFA ordered Lazio to play their next two European games behind closed doors following crowd trouble during the Europa League last-32 match against Borussia Monchengladbach, when fireworks were set off and there were allegations of racist behaviour.

Lazio were also fined €40,000 (£35,000) by UEFA's control and disciplinary committee.

Lotito said it was unfair that his club should be punished for the actions of a "small minority", but on Monday the appeal was dismissed by UEFA's Appeals Body.

In a statement on the club's website, Lotito said: "It was a waste of time. Everything we did to explain ourselves did nothing. The motivations we still do not know...

"Nothing has been served by coming here. There have been four days spent on the appeal, plus expenses, but it is the story of a death foretold."
