Marcelo eager to extend Real run

Real Madrid defender Marcelo says the club are eager to extend their winning streak "until the end of the season" after their 2-1 win over Celta Vigo took them to second place on the La Liga ladder.

• Blog: Motivated Real battle to win

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace to help Real leapfrog rivals Atletico Madrid, who lost at home to Real Sociedad on Sunday. The victory had Marcelo in high spirits, going as far as to suggest Real Madrid will win their remaining games this campaign.

"We have improved, it's true, we are in a winning streak and we want to keep it up until the end of the season," he said.

"Today we were able to win with a lot of work. From the beginning it was a hard game, but we struggled and fought. We did very well and things worked out.

The defender returned to the starting line-up against Celta Vigo, after a run of injuries hampered his season in recent months.

"I am very happy, like always," Marcelo explained. "I was never sad, nothing bothered me. My primary objective is to be well in order to help the team; what I have to do is work and support the team to the max, with my joy.

"I feel good, I can improve but I feel good. I have worked from the beginning of my recovery in order to return to top form as soon as possible and to help the team.

"Football is like that, one day you're up, one day you're down, but things work out when you work at it. I'm not in a hurry; my goal is to be well in order to help the team and the national team and I'm going to work to get into top form quickly."
